‘Critically Divisive Lines:’ Why Inequity Persists In Illinois Schools

Illinois is the only state in the union that funds its schools via property taxes. This means that, by definition, poorer districts with lower property values receive less funding than districts with higher property values.

There are federal and state dollars available, but Illinois' education funding structure explicitly targets the students that need the most funding, and gives them the least.
